Netflix has tried its hand at producing TV sitcoms in the past, but for some odd reason, they don’t usually work. We’ve seen some hits like Fuller HouseFamily Reunion and The Upshaws, but that’s about it. However, it looks like the streamer is better off licensing sitcoms because it recently acquired the streaming rights to the NBC sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez, and it’s doing pretty well on the platform. Now, everyone’s wondering about a Lopez vs. Lopez season 2.

Lopez vs. Lopez is a comedy-drama series created by Grammy-nominated comedian and actor George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, and Debby Wolfe. It’s a sitcom based on George and Mayan’s real lives, albeit a fictionalized version. If you didn’t know, George and Mayan are related in real life. George is the real-life father of Mayan.

The show follows the complicated relationship of a once-estranged father and daughter. After George loses his moving company and is forced to move back in with his daughter Mayan, they work to navigate the ups and downs of living together while learning how to heal their relationship.

George and Mayan star as fictionalized versions of themselves, while Matt Shively, Brice Gonzalez, Selenis Leyva, and Al Madrigal star in the series as well.

Is Lopez vs. Lopez season 2 happening?

YES! Lopez vs. Lopez season 2 is officially happening. Due to the success of the first season, NBC has decided to give the show another go. Back in May 2023, NBC announced the good news to the world. The TV network also revealed at the time that the show would be returning with its second season midseason/summer 2024.

However, it’s worth mentioning that NBC announced this news before the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Although the WGA strike is officially over, the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing. This means there’s a chance we might not see Lopez vs. Lopez season 2 in the release window that was initially given.

Also, not to be the bearer of more bad news, but we also don’t know if the upcoming second season will eventually be available to stream on Netflix. There’s no confirmation at the moment if Netflix will receive the second season after it finishes airing. We’ll probably find out once the second season starts airing on NBC or closer to the end of its run. Don’t worry. You can count on us to let you know all the details once we find out. But the good news is that the hilariously funny sitcom will be returning.
