The Wailing cast: Who stars in the Korean horror movie?

Netflix recently dropped the 2016 Korean horror flick The Wailing, and we’re hearing a lot of buzz around it. But this doesn’t really come as a surprise since it was a huge success commercially when it came out. It also received a widespread positive reception from film critics.

Written and directed by Na Hong-jin, the horror movie takes place in a quiet rural village in the mountains of South Korea. After a mysterious Japanese man and his dog arrive at the village, strange occurrences begin to happen, like villagers brutally killing their families. These villagers are believed to be infected by a mysterious disease, causing them to murder their loved ones. When policeman Jong-goo’s daughter becomes infected, it leads him to investigate and solve the case in order to save her.

Who’s in the cast of the horror movie?

South Korean actor Kwak Do-won stars as Officer Jong-goo in The Wailing. He’s also known for his other roles in the Korean movies The Yellow SeaNameless Gangster: Rules of the TimeThe AttorneyAsura: The City of Madness, Steel Rain and The Man Standing Next. He also had roles in the Korean TV shows Phantom and Good Doctor.

Young South Korean actress Kim Hwan-hee plays the role of Hyo-jin, Jong-goo’s daughter. You might recognize Kim from her other roles in the Korean series Invincible Lee Pyung KangYou Are the Best!Reply 1997Sweet Revenge and Here’s My Plan. She also starred in the leading role of Su-mi in the Korean film Good Morning.

Well-known Japanese actor Jun Kunimura portrays the role of the mysterious Japanese stranger in the film. Some of his other work includes roles in the movies AuditionKill Bill: Vol. 1 and Kate. His most recent role was playing the character, Kazuma Kokuryu, in the Japanese drama series Trillion Game.

Hwang Jung-min plays Il-gwang, a powerful shaman hired to find the person responsible for spreading the disease and the killings. You might’ve watched some of Jung-min’s other movies like Ode to My FatherVeteranThe HimalayasA Violent Prosecutor and Deliver Us from Evil.

The film is rated TV-MA, so it isn’t something you should be watching with young kids around. It was given this age rating for gore, strong language, smoking, and graphic violence. Given what the movie is about, this age rating seems appropriate.
