Average Height, Average Build: Everything we know about the Netflix movie
Back in April 2023, Netflix acquired Adam McKay’s new comedy film Average Height, Average Build, and we’ve been keeping track of every new piece of information released about it to put in a guide.
This isn’t McKay’s first project at Netflix. His first Netflix movie Don’t Look Up was released in December 2021. It went on to be a huge success, becoming Netflix’s second-most-popular film of all time. It was even nominated for four Academy Awards and four Golden Globes.
After the Academy Awards in March 2022, McKay began shopping around his new movie Average Height, Average Build and ultimately chose to return to the place where his latest film was released, Netflix.
McKay takes over writing and directing duties. He’s also producing the film under his Hyperobject Industries banner with Kevin Messick.
What is Average Height, Average Build about?
Described as “part serial killer-thriller, part comedy,” it’s a movie following an extremely smart serial killer who’s determined to find a way to continue his bad deeds. So, he hires a political lobbyist to change laws that will allow him to commit murder more easily. The killer also has to find a way to stop a retired police officer from continuing to pursue him.
The official logline provided by Netflix reads, “A frustrated serial killer meets a state lobbyist and chemistry ensues.”
Who stars in the comedy movie?
Unfortunately, the names of the characters aren’t known at the moment, but we do know what actors will be in the film.
Robert Pattinson stars in the leading role as the serial killer who hopes to change the law so that he can get away with murder more easily. Pattinson is best known for his role as Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga film series. He also portrayed the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 2022 superhero movie The Batman.
Golden Globe Award-winning actress Amy Adams portrays the role of the state lobbyist who helps the serial killer by changing laws. Adams is known for her roles in the movies Catch Me If You Can, Junebug, Enchanted, Doubt, The Master, American Hustle, Arrival, Vice and The Woman in the Window.
She also played the role of Lois Lane in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. You might even recognize her from her role as Camille Preaker in HBO’s Sharp Objects.
Robert Downey Jr. plays the role of the retired cop who is determined to bring the serial killer to justice. Some of Downey Jr.’s previous work includes his roles in the Chaplin biopic, the legal drama series Ally McBeal, the action-comedy flick Tropic Thunder and the period film Sherlock Holmes. He also played the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man in many Marvel movies. His most recent role was in the drama film Oppenheimer.
Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker and The Harder They Fall actress Danielle Deadwyler also star in the movie in undisclosed roles.
According to What’s on Netflix, production was reportedly supposed to start over the summer of 2023, but things had to come to a halt due to the actors’ strike. The news outlet also reported that filming would be taking place in Boston, Massachusetts.
A release date is also unknown because it’s still too early in the filmmaking process. However, it looks like there could be a late 2024 release at the earliest. A 2025 release seems more likely though. We’ll be sure to share the official release date once it’s announced.
