Everything to know about comedian Nate Bargatze

Whenever you’re in need of a good laugh, the best thing to do is browse through Netflix’s comedy section and watch the streamer’s many stand-up specials. One of our go-to comedians to watch on the platform is Nate Bargatze.

He’s a Grammy-nominated comedian from Nashville, Tennessee. He was born on March 25, 1979, making him 44 years old as of October 2023. He started his comedian career in Chicago, Illinois, before moving to New York to continue pursuing his dream at the Boston Comedy Club. You might’ve seen Nate on the popular late-night talk shows Conan and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He even toured with Fallon on Fallon’s Clean Cut Comedy Tour in 2013.

His first stand-up album called Yelled at by a Clown was released in 2014, and it went on to rank at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Top Ten Comedy Charts. In 2015, he dropped his second stand-up album titled Full Time Magic. Then, in 2017, he landed a 30-minute comedy special on Netflix, which was part of The Standups.

Technically, Nate’s half-hour bit in The Standups is considered his first Netflix special. However, his first solo hour-long Netflix special is The Tennessee Kid, which was released in 2019. In 2021, he released his second solo Netflix stand-up special titled The Greatest Average American, which went on to be nominated for the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.

His latest stand-up special is titled Hello World, and it was released on Amazon Prime Video in January 2023.

What’s next for the comedian?

Well, he recently launched a family-friendly content company called “The Nateland Company.” According to Deadline, it’s a company where he’ll “produce stand-up comedy specials, showcases, sketches, scripted episodic content for film and television, podcasts, music and more.”

He’s also currently performing stand-up in his new “The Be Funny Tour.” You can buy tickets on his official website. On Oct. 28, 2023, he’s set to make his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live with Foo Fighters joining as the musical guest.

He also hosts his own podcast called “The Nateland Podcast.”

Nate is currently married to a woman named Laura Bargatze, formerly Laura Baines. They met in their early 20s while working together at an Applebee’s restaurant in Tennessee. He proposed to Laura in 2005 while on a carriage ride through Central Park. They were married a year later on Oct. 13, 2006. They currently live in Nashville, Tennessee with their daughter named Harper who was born in July 2012.
