06/08/23 UPDATE: Unfortunately, Netflix canceled Freeridge after only one season in April 2023. 

On my Block‘s spinoff series Freeridge now has a release date. The teen show is scheduled to land on Netflix on Feb. 2. The first season consists of eight 30-minute episodes, which is somewhat surprising since most Netflix teen shows are given 10 episodes. However, eight episodes seem to be the typical amount of episodes Netflix shows are given lately.

The new teen series follows sibling rivals Gloria and Ines and their group of friends as they work together to reverse a curse that brings constant trouble into their lives. Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Gloria), Bryana Salaz (Ines), Tenzing Norgay Trainor (Cam), and Ciara Riley Wilson (Demi) star as the new core four.

Peggy Blow, who portrayed Abuelita in On My Block, plays a new character in the series. In addition, Paula Garcés, Eric Gutierrez, Eme Ikwuakor, and Raushanah Simmons reprise their roles from On My Block. It’s unknown if more of the main cast from On My Block will make surprise cameos. It would be interesting to see the dynamic between the new and old characters. We’re keeping our fingers crossed!
