A new slasher movie is on Netflix called The Conference. The Swedish horror-comedy film is based on the novel of the same name by author Mats Strandberg and is definitely a movie you’ll want to add to your watchlist if you’re a horror fan.

The film revolves around a group of public sector employees sent on a company retreat to celebrate the development of a new shopping mall. Unfortunately for them, while on this retreat, the group starts getting picked off slowly, one-by-one, by a masked killer with a serious vendetta.

What is The Conference rated?

It’s rated TV-MA for gore, violence, smoking, and language. Seeing as The Conference is a slasher, you should anticipate lots of bloodshed and scenes that you probably don’t want your kids seeing. The Conference definitely leans more into the humor than most horror films, but I still wouldn’t advise letting younger viewers watch it.

Some spoilers ahead for The Conference

If you’re really squeamish about gore, you might want to sit this one out, but here’s an overview of the content you’ll see in the movie for those who need more information:

  • A character commits suicide by hanging, but we only see his feet and it’s very brief
  • Multiple characters brutally bludgeoned to death with various instruments, including a rock, a frying pan, and a giant mallet
  • Someone stabbed through the chest with a giant machete while laying down in a hammock
  • Killer attacks man in hot tub with the blades of a motor, brutally slices him up in the water
  • Woman hanged from a flagpole
  • Wire placed in the forest to cut people who run through it, one character almost gets scalped from it
  • Close-up scene of someone getting a scalp wound stitched, it’s gross
  • Character knicked by a chainsaw and attacked
  • Beheading with a shovel
  • Wood spikes in traps, several people impaled by them, one gets impaled by the stakes after taking a zipline directly into them
  • A character gets scalped during a hand-to-hand combat fight

Is there any nudity in The Conference?

Even though it’s not included in the content warnings for the film on Netflix, there is brief, partial nudity in the film. A man get’s naked a couple of times and you see him from the back for a few seconds. That said, it’s not really sexual in nature and there aren’t any sex scenes or romance in the film. The scenes in question are played for laughs and to demonstrate how smarmy the character in question is.
