Castlevania fans, we have some very good news to share. Castlevania: Nocturne has been officially renewed for a second season! The early renewal comes a little over a week after the first season’s release. But were any of us really surprised? Nope!

Created by Clive Bradley, Castlevania: Nocturne is a sequel to the smash-hit Netflix animated series Castlevania. It’s based on the popular video game series of the same name by Konami. More specifically, the first season was based on the games Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Most critics and viewers absolutely loved the first season, and this helped make a second season happen. But since it’ll likely be a while before we see Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 on our screens, we’re keeping ourselves busy in the meantime by putting together a guide of everything one needs to know about it.

Check out our extensive guide below!

Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 renewal status

On Oct. 6, Netflix announced that the adult animated series would be returning with a second season through a 25-second YouTube video. According to the streamer, Castlevania: Nocturne managed to rank on the Top 10 English TV list within its first five days of release as well as reach the Top 10 in 40 countries. Additionally, in its first two weeks on the platform, it pulled in 4.4 million views.

As reported by Netflix, production on Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 has officially started. This means we’re already a step closer to seeing the show’s return. Once the show finishes being made, it’ll most likely spend a good amount of time in the post-production stage, being edited to perfection. Then, it should make its way to Netflix.

It’s hard to predict when the second season could come out with it being so early in the filmmaking process. But we know the filmmaking process can take quite some time for animated series.

So, our guess is that we’re looking at about a 14 to 15-month wait before the new season comes out. This would put the release at the very end of 2024 or early 2025. But remember, this is just a release prediction. The second season could come out earlier or later than what we predicted. We’ll make sure to share the official release date once it’s announced.

What is Castlevania: Nocturne about?

Set during the height of the French Revolution, Castlevania: Nocturne tells the origin story of Richter Belmont, a young vampire hunter and descendant of Trevor Belmont. It follows Belmont and his adoptive sister, Maria Renard, as they work together to prevent the rise of a ruthless and terrifying vampire ruler.

Here’s the official synopsis via Netflix Media Center:

"France, 1792 – the height of the French Revolution. In a remote part of western France, the counter-revolutionary aristocracy has forged an alliance with a terrifying Vampire Messiah, who promises to ‘eat the sun’ and unleash an army of vampires and nightcreatures to crush the revolution and enslave humanity. Annette, a sorceress from the Caribbean, seeks out Richter Belmont, last descendant of the long-fabled family of vampire hunters, to lead the resistance."

Plot details for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 are under wraps at the moment, and the official cast list has not been revealed yet either. However, the second season is said to follow the “next chapter in the rise of Richter Belmont,” according to series creator Clive Bradley and co-showrunner Kevin Kolde.

Most of the cast from season 1 is also expected to return for the second installment like Edward Bluemel (Richter Belmont), Pixie Davis (Maria Renard), Nastassja Kinski (Tera), Thuso Mbedu (Annette), Sydney James Harcourt (Edouard), James Callis (Alucard), Richard Dormer (Abbot), Aaron Neil (Mizrak), and Franka Potente (Erzsebet Báthory).

Project 51 Productions and Powerhouse Animation are confirmed to produce again for the second season, while Sam Deats and Adam Deats will take over directing duties again.
