Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 is coming to Netflix in December 2023

Hip, hip, hooray! We finally have a Netflix release date for Star Trek: Prodigy season 1. Get ready because the first season of the animated series lands on Netflix on Christmas Day 2023. In other words, Dec. 25, 2023.

Our initial report about Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 is below.

Back in June 2023, Paramount+ canceled Star Trek: Prodigy and several other shows. It also removed these shows from its platform that same month. Now that Netflix has picked the animated series up, it will be releasing the first season on its platform later this year. You can expect all 20 episodes of the first season to land on the streamer by the end of 2023. An official release date hasn’t been announced yet, but we’ll make sure to share it once we find out.

When is Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 coming to Netflix?

If you weren’t aware, the animated series was already renewed for a second season by Paramount+. The streaming giant just decided to scrap it. Luckily, Netflix picked it up so we’ll be seeing the second season soon. How soon, you ask? Well, an official release date hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s been confirmed to come out sometime in 2024. Of course, we’ll share the release date once it’s revealed.

Here’s what executive producer Alex Kurtzman and co-showrunners Dan and Kevin Hageman had to say about the show’s move to Netflix via a tweet on X/Twitter:

"“Thank you to our incredible ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ fans, who championed not just a show but a community that’s always been connected by the belief that we build a better future together. We set out to inspire you but you inspired us. The team is still hard at work on the second season, and we can’t wait to share it with the amazing fans around the world.”"

There will be another 20 episodes in the upcoming second season, but it’s unclear how Netflix will release them. The streamer could either release them all at once or split them into batches. We’ll share the release schedule once it’s revealed.

What is Star Trek: Prodigy about?

It’s a show targeted at younger audiences and is labeled as the tenth Star Trek series. It follows a diverse group of young aliens, who after finding an abandoned Starfleet ship, must find a way to work together as they leave the Delta Quadrant to make their way towards the Alpha Quadrant.
