Timothée Chalamet has become a household name in recent years, truly embodying the term movie star with every career move, interview, and viral moment that inevitably dubs him the internet’s boyfriend. He made his film debut in 2014 with Jason Reitman’s Men, Women & Children, and has since made incredible choices, having already worked with some of the best directors in the business like Christopher Nolan, Greta Gerwig, Luca Guadagnino, Wes Anderson, and Denis Villeneuve.

Though he’s bound to have a few misses in his career, Chalamet has really proven himself to be one of the most talented actors working today, and it’s shocking he’s only been nominated for an Academy Award once. This weekend, Warner Bros.’ big blockbuster Dune heads to Netflix and all eyes will undoubtedly be on the 27-year-old New York native once again.

Whether he’s walking an award show red carpet with a fantastic outfit or being photographed at a game with girlfriend Kylie Jenner, Chalamet is simply someone worth talking about, and that won’t change anytime soon.

And now that Dune is streaming on Netflix as of Oct. 1, we’d like to turn your direction to another Timothée Chalamet title that’s available on the streaming service, which just happens to be his strongest performance and his best movie to date.

Call Me By Your Name is Timothée Chalamet’s best movie, obviously

If you’re not big on sci-fi epics or movies over the 2.5-hour mark, Dune might not be for you. But if you’re a fan of coming-of-age romance dramas with beautiful cinematography and great acting, look no further than Call Me By Your Name. The 2017 movie was directed by Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay penned by James Ivory, adapted from the book of the same name by André Aciman. (If you love the movie, I definitely recommend the book.)

The film follows a teenager living in Northern Italy in the summer of 1983 whose life is forever changed when a graduate student assistant to his professor father comes to stay with his family. Gradually, Elio and Oliver form a romance more intense than either of them could’ve ever expected, though the reality is they cannot be more than a fling.

Call Me By Your Name doesn’t reinvent the wheel in terms of the storyline, but damn does it feature scenes that will stay with you for a while. Not only is the movie visually beautiful and inviting, but the dialogue is near-perfect. Michael Stuhlbarg, who plays Elio’s father, could give a masterclass on heartbreaking monologues, I swear.

From start to finish, Call Me By Your Name is romantic, dreamy, and at the same time, devastating. There’s hope in between it all, though. It just perfectly depicts the excitement and fear of falling in love, and the feeling of realization that it’ll never work out. And while he gives a strong performance, it’s such a shame that Armie Hammer’s controversy has tainted the film a little bit. Such a delicate and carefully crafted love story doesn’t deserve that.

Of course, I can’t talk about Call Me By Your Name without mentioning the final scene, which is still Chalamet’s best acting performance of all time. We see Elio’s reaction to finding out news about Oliver, getting off the phone and sitting by the fireplace to process. The amount of emotions he’s able to convey with just his facial expressions is on par with some of the greats, not just the best actors working today. It’s no coincidence that Chalamet’s one Academy Award nomination was for this film. And the Sufjan Stevens soundtrack is truly haunting.

Call Me By Your Name truly inserted Chalamet into the conversation, catapulting him to stardom and adding his name to every award show discussion, where it’ll likely stay for the rest of his career. Though it’s entirely possible he might not ever have a movie or performance this great, I wouldn’t even be mad about that. This is a masterpiece.
