Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal is a gripping and heartbreaking Netflix true crime docuseries that debuted in February 2023, just a few weeks before Alex Murdaugh was found guilty of murdering his wife and son, Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. Now, Netflix is gearing up to release Murdaugh Murders season 2, an additional three episodes further exploring the tragedy.

The second part of the documentary series will feature additional firsthand accounts from those who were around the Murdaugh family in the days leading up to the murders, including Libby Murdaugh’s former caretaker Mushelle “Shelly” Smith and the family’s housekeeper, Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson. Several of the documentary subjects from season 1 will also return, including Paul Murdaugh’s former girlfriend Morgan Doughty and his friend Anthony Cook.

Michael Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason return as directors and executive producers for the second season. The pair previously collaborated on other notable documentaries like LuLaRich, Shiny Happy People, The Pharmacist, and Fyre Fraud.

Alex Murdaugh is currently serving two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole in a maximum-security South Carolina prison.
