Netflix just shared the Murdaugh Murders season 2 release date and trailer. We don’t have to wait long until the new season of the docuseries is available to stream on Netflix.

It has been several months now since Alex Murdaugh was found guilty of murdering his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and their son Paul Murdaugh. The basics of the double murder investigation were covered in the Netflix documentary series Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal, released in February of this year.

Now, Netflix will delve deeper into the case with a second season of the true-crime series from directors and executive producers Michael Gasparro and Julia Willoughby Nason.

Murdaugh is currently serving two life sentences without the possibility of parole in a South Carolina institution. The jury found him guilty of both murders and he received his sentence in March 2023.

What to expect from Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal season 2

The synopsis that Netflix sent out doesn’t say anything about shedding light on the trial. Still, several of the documentary participants were witnesses at the trial, so we can assume there is at least some new content. The second season will even include an account from one of the trial’s jurors, Gwen Generette.

In the press release, Netflix says, “Season 2 will feature first-hand accounts from those who were there the days leading up to and following the murders, giving more insight than ever into that deadly night.”

Additionally, the following people will be providing insight into the case, some of them new to the documentary and not involved in the first season.

  • Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson – Former Murdaugh family housekeeper
  • Mushelle “Shelly” Smith – Libby Murdaugh’s caregiver
  • Curtis Edward Smith – Cousin “Eddie”
  • Gwen Generette – A trial juror
  • Morgan Doughty – Paul Murdaugh’s ex-girlfriend
  • Anthony Cook – Paul’s friend
  • Valerie Bauerlein – Wall Street Journal reporter

Murdaugh Murders season 2 will premiere on September 20 on Netflix.
