In September 2021, a pop culture phenomenon was born. Netflix debuted its original Korean drama series Squid Game and before long, the show took over the world. Millions upon millions of fans were binge-watching the nine-episode first season, allowing the series to become one of Netflix's most popular originals of all time. It's no surprise that the streamer ultimately opted to renew Squid Game for season 2 in June 2022 and it's been confirmed for release in 2024.

The series centers on 455 individuals competing in deadly children's games in order to take home a massive cash prize to wipe out their financial debts. The success of the series results in a spinoff reality competition series called Squid Game: The Challenge, which has also been renewed for a second season. Squid Game season 2 began filming in July 2023, and Netflix confirmed in January 2024 that the new season will be released sometime this year. That's so exciting, considering the fact that the strikes had postponed nearly every show and movie, and a lot of titles have been pushed to 2025.
