The Diplomat season 2

Emmy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress Keri Russell returned to television in 2023 with Netflix's hit political drama series The Diplomat. While it wasn't the unprecedented runaway success of The Night Agent, which released the month prior, the series still hit pretty big and landed Russell another Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. A few weeks after its premiere, Netflix officially renewed the series for season 2.

Ahead of the dual Hollywood labor strikes, The Diplomat season 2 started filming in June 2023 in London, though production halted once the actors' strike took effect. Following the resolution of both strikes, filming got back underway, not missing a single beat or its confirmed release window in 2024. There's been a lot of good news for The Diplomat and its fans, but none more so than Academy Award-winner Allison Janney joining the cast as Vice President Grace Penn.

Netflix struck a lot of gold with its new shows that premiered in 2023, and The Diplomat is key among that gold. It's the rare show that can make you think, keep you on the edge of your seat, and also sneak in a few laughs along the way. There's no doubt that season 2 will be even better, and we can't wait to see Russell and Janney go toe-to-toe and take their killer performances all the way to the Emmys. The series first premiered in April 2023, but we're predicting a fall release for season 2.
