Netflix announced in November 2021 that a new limited drama series titled Griselda was in the works, and you won’t believe who’s playing the titular character!
On Nov. 1, 2021, The Illuminerdi reported a Narcos spinoff was in development and that Sofia Vergara was in negotiations with Netflix to portray Griselda Blanco, also known as the Black Widow, in the spinoff. Now it’s been confirmed by Netflix in a press release that Sofia will be playing Griselda Blanco in the upcoming drama series, Griselda.
After Narcos: Mexico‘s final season dropped on Netflix in November 2021, fans began worrying that it would be the last they see of the Narcos franchise. Although Griselda isn’t a direct spinoff, it should still have a similar feel to Narcos since it comes from the same team.

What is the crime drama series about?
We have a gist of what the series will be about based on its logline/synopsis.
We provided Griselda‘s logline/synopsis, via Netflix, below:
"GRISELDA is inspired by the life of the savvy and ambitious Colombian businesswoman Griselda Blanco, a devoted mother who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. Blanco’s lethal blend of unsuspected savagery and charm helped her expertly navigate between business and family, leading her to become widely known as “the Godmother.”"
So based on the logline/synopsis, it looks like in this series, we’ll see the rise and fall of one of the most powerful drug kingpins. This should definitely be one of the first shows you watch at the top of 2024.
When was Griselda filming?
Filming reportedly started on Jan. 24, 2022. Production wrapped later on July 1, 2022, according to Griselda showrunner Ingrid Escajeda and Sofia Vergara. Also, production took place in Los Angeles and Miami.
