Virgin River season 5 part 1 ending explained: Who could be SPOILER’s real dad?

Somehow, some way, the writers behind Virgin River managed to create a season that’s more dramatic than ever before with season 5! That’s right: the latest season of the beloved romance show is even more shocking than previous installments, and we’re sure the 10th episode will leave you stunned. Of course, if you’re a fan of this show then you’ll know that they fit a ton of twists and turns in every episode, and this season is no different.

Virgin River season 5 just debuted its first 10 episodes, with the remaining two hitting Netflix in November of this year. Fans had so many burning questions leading into the new installment, and while we got many of them answered, the new episodes pose so many new mysteries we need to have solved soon. One of which includes Mel and her true parentage, which is now in question.

The new season includes plot points of a big wildfire in and around Virgin River, the identity of Charmaine’s real baby daddy being revealed, Brady and Mike teaming up to take down Melissa’s drug trade, and so much more. It’s truly remarkable how many dramatic storylines the writers can fit into just 10 episodes. As for Mel, she goes through a lot this time around, including, sadly, losing her baby.

As actress Alexandra Breckenridge teased before the season came out, the storylines in the new episodes are “pretty heavy,” especially for her character. And the 10th episode ends with another unexpected moment that might change the rest of Mel’s life. After Mel and Jack decide they’re going to buy Lilly’s farm and eventually try to start a family again, we get a time-jump to the holiday season. Jack and Mel are putting up festive decorations when Mel gets a phone call from her sister Joey.

As Joey explains, Mel has a deeper connection to Virgin River than she could’ve ever imagined. Joey has found love letters between their mom and a man who lived in the town, and Joey has reason to believe this man could actually be Mel’s father. The episode ends before we see where their conversation goes next.

Who is Mel’s real dad in Virgin River?

At this point, Mel’s dad could still be the man she always believed him to be. We do not have confirmation after the first 10 episodes of Virgin River season 5 that she and Joey aren’t full siblings. However, we’re sure this will be a HUGE storyline in the sixth season, and at some point, we’ll get our answer.

If you ask us, we could definitely see Doc being revealed to be Mel’s real father. The show has just introduced a really big storyline for Mel, and I don’t think the reveal will be anything short of wild. It would be disappointing if Mel’s dad turns out to be some random man from Virgin River that she doesn’t know, and who better to serve as a father figure than Doc? I mean, he already kind of plays that role in town in a way. Plus, now that he’s looking towards retirement sooner rather than later, a storyline like this could be just what his character needs.

On the other hand, Virgin River already did the secret relative thing for Doc, when he found out last season that he had a child and grandchild he had no idea about. Would the show really do something similar like that again? We’re not sure.
