After the shocking events of the Virgin River season 4 finale, it’s safe to say that Virgin River season 5 is the most highly anticipated season of the hit Netflix original romantic drama series yet. How could it not be with that jaw-dropping cliffhanger?

In the fourth season of the popular Netflix series, so much questions were answered and so many more questions were asked. All of it leads into Virgin River season 5, which is now in production. The cast and crew have been sharing hints about what to expect, and Alexandra Breckenridge just clued us on in the fact that we might need some tissues handy.

Breckenridge, who plays the lead the character Mel Monroe, shared some details in new interview, and though she didn’t divulge specific story spoilers for season 5, we’re inclined to batten down the hatches for a super-emotional season… and the best one yet!

Warning: Spoilers ahead from Virgin River season 4!

Virgin River season 5 has ‘best episodes ever’

In an interview with NewBeauty about her past work on shows like American Horror Story and This Is Us, Alexandra Breckenridge talks from the set of Virgin River season 5. The actress dives into her excitement for the upcoming season and highlights the “high sense of drama.”

As Breckenridge said to New Beauty, we’ll be on the edge of our seat:

"“I think this season has started out well and we’re getting into a few episodes soon that are pretty heavy. They’re really intense and I think that they’re some of the best episodes we’ve ever done. I never say that either! I think that there’s a high sense of drama that starts to come up this season that it’s going to leave people on the edge of their seats. At least, I hope. I’m excited to get into that.”"

Virgin River has always had its fair share of emotionally heavy episodes, whether it’s a beloved character’s death or impactful and personal storylines. But Breckenridge’s tease that season 5 will have “some of the best episodes [they’ve] ever done” seems to suggest we’re digging even deeper into the characters we know and adore.

Of course, in season 4, Mel and Jack struggled with the paternity of Mel’s baby. They later learn that Jack is the father, not her late husband Mark. What’s more, the couple also get engaged, though their happiness could be interrupted by a new business deal that could go sideways.

Meanwhile, Charmaine dropped a bombshell on Mel and Jack the twins. For multiple season, Jack believed he fathered Charmaine’s babies, but in the closing moments of the season, she admits she lied to him about being the father.

The “pretty heavy” episodes could have something do with the various conflicts in Mel and Jack’s life, but there are additional characters headed for complex journeys in season 5. Brie confronted her past with an abusive ex, Denny came clean about his terminal illness, and Preacher continued the fight against Vince with Paige. The edge of our seats? Yeah, we’ll be seated for sure!

We were already as excited as we could be for Virgin River season 5, but Alexandra Breckenridge telling us the upcoming season will have the best episodes to date somehow increased our anticipation that much more. What do you think will happen in season 5?
