Arrival cast: Who stars in the sci-fi movie?

Where are all the sci-fi fans? On Sept. 1, Netflix released the Academy Award-winning film Arrival, and I say it’s a good time for a re-watch. Or maybe it’s your first time watching this movie. If that’s the case, let us share with you all there is to know about it below.

Arrival is a 2016 science fiction film that was directed by Denis Villeneuve from a screenplay written by Eric Heisserer. You might recognize Villeneuve as the director of other movies such as Prisoners, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049 and Dune. In addition, Heisserer is known for writing the screenplays for other films like Final Destination 5, The Thing, Lights Out and Bird Box. He also co-wrote the script for the slasher movie A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010).

Based on the short story Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang, the sci-fi flick follows a linguist named Louise Banks, who is given a task by the United States Army to find a way to communicate with extraterrestrials who have landed on Earth. With the world on the verge of war, Banks must race against time to decode a mysterious language and uncover the real reason behind the aliens’ visit.

Golden Globe Award-winning actress Amy Adams stars in the leading role of Louise Banks. You might recognize Adams from other movies she’s been in such as Catch Me If You Can, Junebug, Enchanted, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, American Hustle, Big Eyes, Nocturnal Animals, The Woman in the Window and Dear Evan Hansen. She also starred as Lois Lane in the superhero films Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Oscar-nominated actor Jeremy Renner plays the role of Ian Donnelly, a physicist who joins Louise in studying the extraterrestrial spacecrafts that landed on Earth. Renner is best known for roles in the movies Dahmer, S.W.A.T., 28 Weeks Later, The Hurt Locker, The Town, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Bourne Legacy, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and American Hustle.

He also portrayed the role of Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the superhero movies Thor, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow. He reprised this role in the Disney+ miniseries Hawkeye.
