A new coming-of-age comedy film is out now on Netflix! Idina Menzel joins Adam Sandler and his daughters Sunny and Sadie Sandler in the family-friendly movie You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Sammi Cohen, director of the Hulu rom-com Crush, directs the film, based on a screenplay by Alison Peck adapted from the book of the same name by Fiona Rosenbloom.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is an endearing film ideal for teens and preteens, though there is plenty for parents to enjoy, too. It’s clearly designed for families to enjoy together, from the Sandler family to yours!

However, occasionally, family films can still be inappropriate for certain audiences. Some parents like to know what they’re getting into before allowing younger viewers to watch. Here’s what you need to know about You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitvah‘s age rating and content.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah parents guide

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah received a PG-13 rating, meaning parents are strongly cautioned as some material might be inappropriate for kids under 13. Having watched the movie, I think You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is suitable for most viewers, but there is some crude humor parents might want to be aware of before watching with their families.

The movie received a PG-13 rating for some crude/suggestive material, strong language, and brief teen drinking. The teen drinking is very fast and only occurs in one short scene where an adult allows the Friedman’s elder daughter and friend to try alcohol at a party.

Other than that, the PG-13 rating is due to some of the adult humor used in the film. If you’ve seen other Adam Sandler movies, then you probably know what to expect, though this one has significantly less sexual and gross-out/bathroom humor and is, in general, geared more toward young viewers. The main characters are only 12-13, so their comedy and language reflect that.
