You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is the official title of the Netflix original movie, and Sammi Cohen is directing it from a screenplay written by Alison Peck. You might recognize Cohen as the director of the Hulu coming-of-age film Crush. Peck is best known for writing the script for the Netflix movie Work It.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is a part of Adam Sandler and his Happy Madison production company’s partnership with Netflix, which was extended in 2020 to include four additional films. The original deal was made in 2014, and so far we’ve seen the release of the Sandler-produced films Sandy Wexler, Murder Mystery, The Do-Over, The Week Of, Hubie Halloween, The Ridiculous Six and Hustle on Netflix. Sandler also created and produced the Netflix stand-up special Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh through Happy Madison Productions.

Happy Madison executive Tim Herlihy and Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton are producing alongside Sandler. In addition, Happy Madison executives Barry Bernardi, Judit Maull, and Kevin Grady are executive producing.

No, the cast and crew are done shooting the film. According to What’s on Netflix, production started in late June 2022 in Toronto Ontario, Canada, and wrapped on Aug. 11, 2022.

On May 10, Netflix unveiled its summer slate of movies, announcing that the upcoming film from Happy Madison will be released on Aug. 25, 2023! So we’re only a couple of weeks away from what is sure to be a great movie for families to enjoy.

As mentioned earlier, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is a film adaptation of Fiona Rosenbloom’s book of the same name.

"Stacy Friedman is getting ready for one of the most important events of her young life––her bat mitzvah! All she wants is the perfect BCBG dress to wear, her friends by her side, and her biggest crush ever, Andy Goldfarb, to dance with her (and maybe even make out with her on the dance floor). But Stacy’s well-laid plans soon start to fall apart….Her stressed-out mother forces her to buy a hideous sequined dress that makes her look like the bride of Frankenstein. Her mitzvahs are not going well at all. And then the worst thing in the entire world happens––causing Stacy to utter the words that will wreak complete havoc on her social life …You are SO not invited to my bat mitzvah!"

The cast lineup is amazing! Adam Sandler, his wife, Jackie Sandler, and their two daughters, Sunny and Sadie Sandler star in the film. Idina Menzel, who starred alongside Sandler in Uncut Gems, also stars in the movie, along with Saturday Night Live‘s Sarah Sherman and Shameless star Luis Guzmán.
