While Netflix has still not given me the Jewish holiday rom-com I’ve been asking for, they are giving us a Jewish tween movie! You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is the tween movie we didn’t know we’d been waiting for!  And it’s also based on a book, which is even better.

The book of the same name is by Fiona Rosenbloom and first came out in 2005. The story follows Stacy Friedman, who is planning her ultimate Bat Mitzvah. She wants it to be the party of the year, to have her best friend, Lydia, by her side, and for her crush to actually dance with her. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned, and everything starts falling apart.

Drama and boys come between the two friends, Stacy’s parents won’t let her do what she wants, and she still has to learn everything for her Bat Mitzvah ceremony. Hebrew is not an easy language to learn, especially when your whole world is falling apart!

The movie stars Sunny Sandler, Adam Sandler, Idina Menzel, Samantha Lorraine, Jackie Sandler, Sadie Sandler, Dylan Hoffman, Sarah Sherman, Jackie Hoffman, and Luis Guzmán.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah release time on Netflix

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah is coming to Netflix on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, at 12:01 a.m. PT/3:01 a.m. ET. If you were once in the position of dealing with the stress of a Bat Mitzvah, you might stay up late and relive your awkward tween years with this movie. Otherwise, this is definitely the perfect film to watch on a Friday or Saturday night.

Hopefully, this movie is a sign that there are plenty of diverse (not just Adam Sandler-related) Jewish movies to come for Netflix. However, we only want them if Netflix is paying the writers and actors appropriately.
