The Monkey King is a family comedy centered around the charismatic titular character and his magical fighting Stick, per the synopsis. The duo is in for an “epic quest” to beat many fantastical creatures like over 100 demons, the Dragon King, and Monkey’s “greatest foe of all” – himself! As the two embark on their journey, a little girl puts his ego and attitude in check and shows him that even something small can affect the world.

The film, which is based on the epic Ming Dynasty classic Journey to the West, stars Jimmy O. Yang as the Monkey King, Nan Li as Stick, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Lin, Jo Koy as Benbo, Ron Yuan as Babbo, Hoon Lee as Jade Emperor, BD Wong as Buddha, Andrew Kishino voicing both Demon of Havoc and King Yama, Sophie Wu as Red Girl, Jodi Long as Wangmu, James Si as Elder Monkey, Andrew Pang as Mayor, Stephani Hsu as Mayor’s Wife, and Kuno Inghram as Mayor’s Son.
