Is there a sequel to the Bee Movie?

Over the years the internet has been abuzz with whispers about a possible sequel titled “Bee Movie 2: Attack of the Wasps.” With Idea Wiki even creating a fan page for the movie. However, Jerry Seinfeld, the creative force behind the original Bee Movie, has yet to utter an official statement regarding the sequel.

In a recent article, Screen Rant echoed the uncertainty surrounding the project’s existence, shedding light on a past interview with Cartoon Brew where Seinfeld candidly expressed his hesitations in revisiting Barry B. Benson story, but for a surprising reason…

The comedian is fearful that a second instalment could inadvertently diminish the iconic status of the original. In the interview with Cartoon Brew he revelled that the idea of a Bee Movie 2 had crossed his mind, however, overall thought it best to leave it to rest.

"“There’s a fantastic energy now for some reason, on the internet particularly… I actually did consider it, but then I realized it would make Bee Movie 1 less iconic.”"

The comedian also hilariously noted, “I considered it this spring for a solid six hours.”

Could there be a Bee Movie 2 in the future?

The hesitation to create a sequel is warranted, after all, the original film took a decade to find its cult status and become a beloved classic among viwers. The prospect of following up on such a legacy is a daunting challenge, especially when Seinfeld himself is keen on safeguarding the unique identity of the first instalment.

However, previously, Seinfeld did let a glimmer of hope for a sequel slip through the cracks!

“My kids want me to do it, a lot of people want me to do it. A lot of people that don’t know what animation is want me to do it,” he admitted furing a Reddit AMA in 2016.
