Heartstopper is finally back! The highly anticipated second season is now streaming on Netflix, and fans of the teen series didn’t waste any time to start watching the brand-new episodes. This season, Charlie and Nick deal with coming out as a couple to more people than just their friend group. Meanwhile, their friends try to navigate their own complicated love lives.

In Heartstopper season 1, there was only one other couple to end up together at the end of the season besides Charlie and Nick. That couple was Darcy and Tara. But while Charlie and Nick had to work their way up to being in a relationship in the first season, Darcy and Tara were already going strong as a couple. It didn’t seem like they had any problems in their relationship either.

However, this changes in Heartstopper season 2. Darcy and Tara start the season off in a good space, but things quickly take a turn for the worse after Tara tells Darcy that she loves her. Darcy doesn’t say it back, so Tara tries to play it off like she didn’t mean it. But afterward, Darcy starts acting weird around Tara and refuses to open up to her about her feelings. This leads Tara to believe that Darcy is hiding something from her.

What is Darcy hiding from Tara in Heartstopper season 2?

Darcy is hiding the fact that she hasn’t come out to her parents yet. At the end of the seventh episode, Darcy’s mom kicks Darcy out of her house after she refuses to take off her prom outfit. Although her mom doesn’t explain why she wants Darcy to take off the outfit, it’s obvious that she doesn’t want her to wear a suit to prom because it’s not feminine. The next day, Tara shows up on Darcy’s doorstep looking for her.

Darcy’s mom tells Tara that Darcy left the night before because she wanted to wear a suit to prom and she wouldn’t allow it. She then makes a comment saying that Darcy looked like a lesbian. This is when everything clicks for Tara. Tara realizes that Darcy hasn’t come out to her parents yet, which is why she’s never met Darcy’s parents or been to her house. Later that night, Tara has an emotional conversation with Darcy at Nick’s house.

Darcy explains to Tara why she was hiding a part of her life from her. She tells Tara that she didn’t want to disappoint her. Tara had always looked up to Darcy regarding sexuality because Darcy always appeared to be confident in her sexuality at school. But Darcy tells Tara that she’s not confident because she hides her sexuality when she’s at home. Darcy also explains to Tara why initially she couldn’t say she loved her back. She was afraid that Tara wouldn’t love her once she knew everything about her. So, she tried to steer away from talking about feelings.

After Darcy confesses everything, Tara reassures her that she loves everything about her and still wants to be with her. They share a passionate kiss, dance, and spend the rest of the night playing games with their friends.
