Will there be a Captain Underpants 2 movie?

On July 10, Netflix dropped the popular 2017 kid-animated movie Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, and it didn’t take long for subscribers to start streaming it. Since the first film ends on a cliffhanger, this may lead you to ask if a sequel is in the works. As always, we’ve got you covered. David Soren directed Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie from a screenplay written by Nicholas Stoller. Additionally, the movie is based on the bestselling illustrated children’s book series of the same name by Dav Pilkey. It is believed to have adapted the first, second, fourth, and eleventh books in the series.

The film’s plot is about two best friends, George and Harold, who enjoy pulling pranks on people and creating comics. One day the mischievous fourth-grade pranksters create an unlikely superhero when they accidentally hypnotize their grumpy and cruel school principal into thinking he’s Captain Underpants. With an evil scientist, Professor Poopypants, out to exact revenge and take over the world, George, Harold, and Captain Underpants must team up to save the day.

Thomas Middleditch voices the character Harold Hutchins, while Kevin Hart voices George Beard. Ed Helms, Nick Kroll, Jordan Peele, and many others are also in the voice cast.

Will there be a Captain Underpants 2 movie?

As of July 13, 2023, it’s still unknown if there will be a Captain Underpants 2 movie. It’s been six years since the first film came out (June 2017), and there still hasn’t been any news on a sequel.

However, there have been other Captain Underpants content to come out since then, like three Netflix specials and an animated series titled The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants. You can stream the animated series on Netflix as well. A Dog Man feature film was even announced back in December 2020, but it’s still currently in development.

Since so much time has passed with no news on a Captain Underpants 2, it looks like there might not be a sequel to the hit kid-animated film. Maybe after the Dog Man movie comes out, we’ll hear something about a Captain Underpants 2, but it’s not looking too good right now. Don’t worry, though.
