As Netflix fans eagerly await any news about Wednesday season 2, we come bearing great news about the series as the 2023 Emmy Award nominations have been announced and it’s getting major recognition. It’s going to be tough competition this year with big comedy shows like Ted Lasso and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel coming to an end this year, but Wednesday is officially in the running for Outstanding Comedy Series!

And that’s not all. Wednesday star Jenna Ortega is also getting the respect she deserves. Not only was she nominated for a Golden Globe at the ceremony earlier this year for her performance as the iconic Wednesday Addams, but she’s also just been nominated for an Emmy Award! The nominations were announced on July 12 and while the series didn’t get as many noms as others, it got two of the most important: Outstanding Comedy Series and Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Jenna Ortega and Wednesday Emmy Award nominations

Ortega will be up against the likes of seasoned actresses like Christina Applegate for Dead to Me, Natasha Lyonne for Poker Face, Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary, and Rachel Brosnahan for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Though we’re not sure if the odds are in Ortega’s favor, just to be nominated with these amazing ladies is a huge feat.

Also important to note is that Ortega makes history with her nomination, being the first Latina nominated for a lead acting award at the Emmys since 2008! She’s also the youngest Latina to ever be nominated for the award, and the second-youngest in general for the category. At 20 years old, Ortega is making quite the name for herself and we are so, extremely excited for her.

As for Wednesday, the Netflix show will be competing against Ted Lasso, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Only Murders in the Building, The Bear, Barry, Abbott Elementary, and Jury Duty. We aren’t too confident Wednesday will end up taking home the award, but it’s still a huge deal just to be nominated.

Other Netflix actor nominees at the 2023 Emmy Awards include Evan Peters for Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Kerri Russell for The Diplomat, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong for Beef, and as mentioned, Christina Applegate for Dead to Me.

The 2023 Emmys are scheduled for Sept. 18, 2023, but the status of the impending SAG-AFTRA strike could definitely postpone the ceremony.
