The Mexican Netflix drama The Surrogacy arrived on Netflix in June 2023 and has remained a top competitor in Netflix’s Top 10 for non-English shows. It’s even more impressive when you realize this telenovela boasts 24 episodes and has churned up millions of views since it was released. Given how juicy the show is and its many twists, fans might wonder if The Surrogacy season 2 is in the works.

The Surrogacy, from creator Aída Guajardo, is a soapy and emotional telenovela following a powerful and corrupt family who will do whatever it takes to get the perfect baby. Despite surrogacy being illegal in Mexico, they manage to coerce a young Indigenuos woman into becoming a surrogate for them to save her father. Unfortunately for her, this family will do whatever it takes to protect their reputation, no matter the cost.

Shaní plays Yeni, the woman coerced into becoming a surrogate for the powerful couple Julia (Marcela Guirado) and Carlos (Luis Ernesto Franco). The Surrogacy also stars Leticia Calderón, Alejandro de la Madrid, Minnie West, Camila Selser, Cecilia Toussaint, and Dagoberto Gama.

Here’s everything we know about The Surrogacy season 2 so far.

Is The Surrogacy season 2 happening?

Renewal status: No decision has been made on the show’s future.

The Surrogacy was released on June 14, 2023, meaning it has been approximately one month since the series debuted. Netflix can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to decide on a show’s fate.

Even though the Mexican soap has been popular with viewers, it’s hard to predict if Netflix will choose to renew it, mainly because the show wraps up the majority of its storylines in the finale. If the writers plan to continue, there are a few paths forward, but The Surrogacy would also work just fine as a limited series. A twenty-four-episode count is already more than most Netflix shows get, even across multiple seasons.
