3 best Netflix movies to watch (and 2 to skip) this weekend, June 30

NIMONA - A Knight (Riz Ahmed) is framed for a crime he didn't commit and the only person who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shape-shifting teen who might also be a monster he's sworn to kill. Set in a techno-medieval world unlike anything animation has tackled before, this is a story about the labels we assign to people and the shapeshifter who refuses to be defined by anyone. Succession actress Sarah Snook stars in a new horror movie now streaming on Netflix this week, and the highly-anticipated and long-awaited animated feature Nimona finally arrives after years of waiting. Which Netflix movies should you watch (or skip) the weekend of June 30?

With the holiday coming up, many of us have some extra free time this weekend to relax and watch Netflix movies, but it’s always hard to choose with so many options available! In addition to the films listed below, movies like World War Z, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Jerry Maguire, and Puss in Boots are leaving Netflix on July 1, so now is the time to check those out before they’re gone.

Beyond that, here’s our curated weekly list of Netflix movies you should check out this weekend!

Best Netflix movies to watch this weekend, June 30

Run Rabbit Run

Watch! Unfortunately, Sarah Snook’s (of Succession fame) new horror film Run Rabbit Run isn’t getting great reviews from critics or audiences. But horror movies are rare on Netflix, so it’s worth checking out this film to support the genre. Plus, Sarah Snook will surely deliver an excellent performance even if the movie itself isn’t great. Snook plays a young mother who becomes increasingly disturbed when her daughter starts experiencing memories of a past life.

Resident Evil movies

Skip! All of the Resident Evil movies on Netflix are leaving this weekend. The last day to watch Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Retribution, and Resident Evil: Afterlife is on July 1. I am one of the rare people who actually enjoys the Resident Evil films, but many don’t. If you haven’t seen them, now is the time to watch them, but diehard fans of the games may want to skip them.

Nimona

Watch! Nimona is a must-watch. Not only is the new animated movie getting rave reviews and near-unanimous praise from critics, but it’s worth supporting it because of the long road to get on our screens. The animated film follows a knight framed for a crime he didn’t commit, and the only person who believes him is a shapeshifting teen named Nimona.

Make Me Believe

Skip! This Turkish romantic comedy sees two meddling grandmothers set up a meet-cute for their grandchildren, hoping it will rekindle their childhood romance. Make Me Believe is a cute movie, but nothing special.

The Imitation Game

Watch! Netflix recently added this 2014 film that earned eight nominations at the 87th Academy Awards, winning for Best Adapted Screenplay. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing. Based on a true story, The Imitation Game centers around Turing’s story and his cryptanalysis team assigned to crack Nazi codes in 1939.
