Netflix just announced the Sweet Magnolias season 3 release date, and we don’t have to wait that much longer to see the new episodes of the Netflix original series.

Sweet Magnolias season 2 premiered on Feb. 4, 2022, and ended the over two-year gap between the original release of the hit first season. Now that fans have caught up with the titular trio, they’re looking ahead to Sweet Magnolias season 3 and what’s next.

The romantic drama series based on the book series by Sherryl Woods debuted on Netflix in May 2020 and was an instant hit with fans looking for a feel-good binge-watch. Season 2 offers more of the same, including a jaw-dropping finale that will leave you wanting more.

Sweet Magnolias season 3 is happening

Sweet Magnolias fans had to wait a little while to find out that season 3 was happening. The Sweet Magnolias writers room confirmed season 3 was happening on Twitter in May 2022.

It’s great that Netflix didn’t wait too long to announce the new season. We had to wait so long for season 2, and delaying that announcement or start date on the new season would have been a problem. Thankfully, production was able to get started on Sweet Magnolias season 3 shortly after the renewal.

Sweet Magnolias season 3 release date

Release Date: July 20, 2023

As mentioned, production on the third season started in the summer of 2022. The Sweet Magnolias writers’ room also confirmed that production on the third season wrapped in October 2022 in a tweet.

This is obviously great news! For season 2, the cast and crew finished filming in the summer of 2021, and then the new season was released in February 2022. So, that’s a gap of about six-ish months. With production on season 3 ending in mid-October, there was hope Sweet Magnolias season 3 would be coming in the spring; however, it has now been confirmed that season 3 will be released in July 2023!

As confirmed by TVLine, Sweet Magnolias season 3 will release on July 20, 2023, with the show’s latest ten-episode season arriving as a perfect summertime binge.

The move makes sense given Netflix’s decision to shift Virgin River to the fall, as many had anticipated its new season would arrive in July. However, with Sweet Magnolias confirmed for July 2023, it seems this was indeed the case and it’s not surprising Netlfix would not want to release new seasons of both shows during the same month.

How many seasons of Sweet Magnolias are there?

Currently, as of May 2023, there are two seasons of Sweet Magnolias available to watch on Netflix. Of course, we’re still waiting on season 3 to premiere sometime soon this year, and after that season releases, we’ll be waiting on word about Sweet Magnolias season 4. Given the success and longevity of the similar show Virgin River, we expect Netflix to keep renewing Sweet Magnolias as long as fans continue to tune in and adore the series.

Yeah, absolutely. I think it’ll be here before you know it. I don’t have a date to give you today, but I will soon, and I’m just so excited for Season 3. I think it shows a whole new feel and look. I mean, it’s the same sweet, beautiful Serenity with the same friendly faces and familiar faces, but it’s just digging a little bit deeper this year. Of course, season 3 would continue to trace the personal lives of these characters as they make their way through Serenity. The mayoral storyline was left unresolved, leaving the door open for further exploration of the town’s future in the next season.

Meanwhile, Helen will have to choose between a future with either Erik or Ryan, while Maddie will be dealing with the fallout of Cal’s arrest. Little by little, their fledgling relationship overcame seemingly insurmountable hurdles, but this could be the toughest one yet.
