With so much new (and old) content being added to Netflix every week, deciding which movies to watch and which ones to skip can be challenging. Rather than spending hours scrolling through the massive Netflix catalog, we’re here to help you with a curated list of Netflix movies highlighting the best films to watch and a few you can live without seeing.

This weekend, Netflix subscribers are in for a treat as Netflix is finally adding two highly-anticipated Sony movies to its catalog: the mystery thriller film Missing and the Hugh Jackman drama film The Son. Both films will be added to the Netflix catalog on Saturday, May 20. Additionally, a few older movies are now trending in the Netflix top 10 and more. Find out which ones are worth watching below!

Best Netflix movies to watch this weekend, May 19

Missing

PG-13 thriller film and sequel to Searching (2018) comes to Netflix on Saturday, May 20.

Watch! Storm Reid stars in this standalone anthology sequel to the successful 2018 movie starring John Cho. Like its predecessor, Missing is a screenlife thriller that uses a unique form of visual storytelling to show the entire movie through computer and smartphone screens, similar to films like Unfriended.

You don’t need to have watched Searching to check out Missing! June’s (Storm Reid) mother (Nia Long) disappears while on vacation with her new boyfriend in Colombia. Unable to get past the international red tape, June uses all of the technology at her disposal to find out what happened to her mom.

Fifty Shades of Black

R-rated spoof of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Skip! The Wayans Brothers are well-known for their parody movies and comedies, but unfortunately, Fifty Shades of Black misses the mark. It’s just really not funny and only received a 4% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Even audiences didn’t much care for the film, and they tend to be more forgiving of comedies. You’d be better off revisiting some of the early Scary Movie films instead.

The Son

Hugh Jackman received a Golden Globe nomination for his work in this PG-13 drama based on the play of the same name from director Florian Zeller. Coming to Netflix on Saturday, May 20.

Watch! The Son received mixed reviews from critics due to its heavy melodrama, but it’s worth watching if only for the stellar performances from its cast, including Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, and Vanessa Kirby. When Peter (Jackman) discovers that his son, Nicholas (Zen McGrath), is in serious trouble, he strives to reach out and help him in the ways he wished his own father would have done for him.

Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me

New documentary about late model Anna Nicole Smith.

Skip! Even though Netflix delivered a moving documentary on Pamela Anderson earlier this year, Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me seems more disdainful of its subject. It speaks volumes that Smith’s daughter Dannielynn Birkhead and her father Larry Birkhead were not involved with the project. Overall, the documentary feels more exploitative than like a meaningful look at who Anna Nicole Smith was in life.

Ted

Amusing R-rated comedy that should appeal to the Seth MacFarlane crowd.

Watch! This 2012 movie was recently added to Netflix and will make for a fun Saturday night viewing if you don’t have anything else on your watchlist. Mark Wahlberg stars as John who once made a wish that his beloved teddy bear would come to life. Thirty years later, the foul-mouthed Ted (Seth MacFarlane) is still his constant companion, much to the annoyance of John’s girlfriend, Lori (Mila Kunis).
