Netflix shows canceled: Dash & Lily

  • Created by: Joe Tracz
  • Starring: Austin Abrams, Midori Francis, Dante Brown and Troy Iwata

Before becoming Ethan on Euphoria, did you know that Austin Abrams played the romantic male lead in this utterly charming Christmas comedy series? Based on the young adult book series Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn, Dash & Lily was the perfect Christmas show. Heartwarming, sweet, and downright cuddly, this darling one-season show deserved much better treatment from Netflix.

With the series consisting of several books, Dash & Lily could easily have become a holiday staple to be enjoyed each Christmas. The series follows two teenagers, the titular Dash and Lily, who start communicating via messages and dares hidden inside books passed back and forth via the famous Strand Bookstore in Lower Manhattan.

But sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. However, the good thing is that the first and only season of Dash & Lily is very open-and-shut, so you can still watch the show or revisit it year after year and get a happy ending without having to concern yourself with a giant cliffhanger. There was certainly room for the story to continue, but it also ends in a lovely place storywise that newcomers can hop in and treat it like a miniseries.
