If you have managed to stay off of every major social media site since Euphoria season 2 premiered on HBO in January 2022, then you’re probably curiously unaware of the hold the dark teen drama has on the world. And it’s a stronger hold than some Netflix shows.

Zendaya leads Euphoria in her Emmy-winning performance as Rue Bennett, a troubled teen battling drug addiction. The cast also features breakout stars Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Angus Cloud, and Kissing Booth star Jacob Elordi.

As the blockbuster second season of the latest teen drama sensation comes to a close, fans will be searching high and low for something to fill that void. There are plenty of Netflix shows that tap into similar themes, though with less glitter and graphic nudity.

Netflix shows like Euphoria

Euphoria fans can check out Sydney Sweeney in the Netflix teen comedy Everything Sucks! and stick with that high school comedy vibe with Never Have I Ever. But if you’re looking for something a little grittier, these five Netflix shows are perfect for a post-Euphoria binge-watch.

Elite

The Spanish teen drama Elite centers on a clash of the classes at a prep school when a handful of less-affluent students receive scholarships and suddenly rub elbows with their new privileged peers. There’s sex, drugs, murder, and all the angst to pack into four seasons and counting.

Elite will hit different from Euphoria, in that it’s a bit soapier than the HBO drama. But it will have new viewers hooked all the same. Netflix renewed the series for fifth and sixth seasons, the former of which is expected to premiere sometime in 2022.

Sex Education

Most will assume that because Sex Education has that title that it has, it’s as graphic as Euphoria. While the teen dramedy certainly doesn’t pull any punches, it’s less rough around the edges and doesn’t quite have that hard-to-watch element.

The series follows Otis Millburn, the son of a sex therapist, and his friends at Moordale Secondary School, who help their peers with their sex life struggles. It’s become a fan-favorite and one of the top Netflix originals, with the fourth season on its way.

On My Block

If you love the close friendships in Euphoria (well, some are closer than others), then On My Block will make a great addition to your watch list. The comedy-drama was one of the most underrated Netflix shows during its four-season run, and fans will definitely miss the lovable series.

Fortunately, there’s more On My Block soon to come. Netflix greenlit a spin-off called Freeridge, which will center on a new group of young characters coming of age amid difficult circumstances. There’s still time for new fans to binge-watch On My Block before the next chapter.

Netflix shows - Insatiable

Insatiable

Sure, it might be weird to add Insatiable to a list of recommendations in 2022 since it was one of the most controversial Netflix shows, probably of all time. But what is Euphoria if not controversial week after week with its no-holds-barred approach to storytelling?

Insatiable stars former Disney star Debby Ryan as Patty Bladell, a teenager who’s dead-set on getting revenged for getting bullied for her weight. The series received a lot of blow back, but it also had its fans. If you love a challengingly irreverent watch, Insatiable’s two seasons are for you.

Netflix shows - Grand Army - Euphoria

Grand Army

Since most of these Netflix teen dramas require a multi-season binge-watch, we thought we’d include a series that was unfortunately canceled after one season and isn’t a lengthy time commitment. Grand Army is a nine-episode teen drama that’s still worth watching.

The series takes place at Grand Army High School in Brooklyn, New York, and centers on a group of students dealing with a number of issues just like the teens in Euphoria. Grand Army boasts great performances and gripping stories that shouldn’t be ignored.
