Mulligan parents guide: Is this animated series kid-friendly?

What would you do if you were one of the last humans left on Earth? That’s what the main characters featured in Netflix’s new adult animated series Mulligan must contend with in the aftermath of an alien invasion.

Luckily for them (or maybe unluckily, depending on who you ask), the remaining human survivors on Earth have Bostonian Matty Mulligan (Nat Faxon) looking out for them. Matty saves the world from total destruction and becomes the President in the interim while everyone figures out how to move forward and start fresh. But will the survivors forge a new path? Or are they doomed to repeat history and make the same mistakes as the previous civilization?

Brought to you by the team that gave us Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Mulligan is a clever and hilarious animated sitcom worth checking out this weekend. It features a fantastic voice cast with stars like Tina Fey, Dana Carvey, Phil LaMarr, and more! However, despite its appealing and colorful animation, Mulligan is aimed at adults.

Here’s what parents should know about the series before letting kids watch it.

Mulligan is rated TV-14 for a few scary moments, language, smoking, and substances. The show contains crude humor and adult jokes.

Mulligan is relatively tame compared to some of Netflix’s other adult animated offerings like Big Mouth and Farzar. This show isn’t anywhere near those regarding sexual content and adult jokes.

That said, it’s rated TV-14, so it will have some dialogue, language, and humor that will go over the heads of young viewers. If you have teenagers over 14 at home, they’re probably okay to watch this. Mulligan is comparable to network sitcoms like Futurama and Family Guy; if they can handle those, this show should be OK to watch.
