Black Knight season 2 updates: Will there be another season?

Netflix has dropped the Korean sci-fi series Black Knight, and people are quickly making their way through the episodes. Since there are only six episodes in the first season, finishing them shouldn’t take long. But once you finish, you’re left wondering if the story will continue in an additional installment. No worries! We shared everything we know about a potential Black Knight season 2 right below.

Black Knight is based on the widely-acclaimed webtoon of the same name by Lee Yoon-gyun. It’s set in a dystopian Korea where severe air pollution has destroyed most of the world and turned the country into a desert wasteland where only 1% of the population remains. The population has been divided due to there being scarce resources, and a cruel social hierarchy determines who gets what.

Survivors must wear respirators and depend on the “knights,” specialized deliverymen, to supply them with oxygen and other necessities. 5-8, a legendary knight, works to overthrow the hierarchy along with the help of other knights. Sa-wol, a refugee who wishes to become a knight, eventually joins the fight, and Major Seol-ah works to uncover the dirty secrets of the de facto ruler of the world, the all-powerful Cheonmyeong Group.

Kim Woo-bin stars in the leading role as 5-8, the strongest and most admired deliveryman. The rest of the main cast includes Song Seung-heon, Esom, and Kang Yoo-seok.

Is Black Knight season 2 happening?

As of May 12, Netflix has not renewed the Korean series. This isn’t surprising because it just came out. But honestly, the chance of the show returning with a second season is slim to none. The complete story is told within the six episodes, so there really isn’t a need for a Black Knight season 2. The bad guy is taken down, the brutal social hierarchy is destroyed, the government is working hard to improve the oxygen supply system, and the air quality seems to be getting better. There’s really no more story left to be told.

And although the show is based on a webtoon, it tells a completely different story. So, we can’t look to the webtoon to see if there’s more story that can be told in a second season.

I mean, the creator could easily come up with a new plot and storylines if there were to be a Black Knight season 2. But the show could really end with just its first season. Netflix Korean series are typically given only one season anyway. We’ll let you know if the streaming giant decides to renew the series or not. But for now, expect Black Knight to be a one-and-done type of show.
