Manifest season 4 part 2 will see Michaela emotionally “shut down”

Whether you’re Team Zeke or Team Jared, no one can deny that the death of the empath hurt. Not only for his beloved wife Michaela, but for us watching as well! And in Manifest season 4 part 2, the Stone sibling is rightfully going to have a tough time grappling with the loss.

In the last episode of season 4 part 1, a.k.a. episode 10 of the season, Zeke sacrifices himself to save Cal. He realizes that the young boy, who’s actually not that young anymore, could play a big role in saving the passengers. And so being the hero he is, Zeke takes on Cal’s pain from his returned cancer.

There’s an emotional monologue with flashbacks of him and Michaela, while he says goodbye to her on the phone. Totally heart-wrenching! And then when Michaela returns to the house and holds him in her arms? The box of tissues I had was not enough.

Now as we look towards the final batch of episodes from the beloved series, of course we’re going to see the effects of Zeke’s death on Michaela, as well as the whole family. After all, he was close to each and every member. The Stones definitely cannot catch a break.

So where will Michaela’s headspace be in part 2? Melissa Roxburgh shared some insights ahead of the show’s release on June 2, 2023 (a.k.a. the Death Date!) with Entertainment Weekly. Read on below!

Manifest season 4 part 2 will see Michaela emotionally “shut down”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creator Jeff Rake and Roxburgh talk about those final episodes. With the Death Date looming, that’s already enough for Michaela to be dealing with. And now on top of it all, the character just lost her husband.

The actress told EW that she doesn’t go into as dark of a place as her brother Ben, played by Josh Dallas. She’s still helping the passengers and focusing on saving everyone. But she “kind of shuts down.” Here’s what Roxburgh told the news outlet:

"She’s a lot more ‘eh’ toward things. She’s not apathetic. She’s drained. She’s fried. She hasn’t given up on on anything, but her attention is on the plane stuff, the mystery, to get her mind off of the pain that she keeps pushing away."

While that’s the case and Rake did confirm to EW that Zeke is dead, that doesn’t mean the character can’t pop up in some other way. The creator previously told the news outlet that the bond between Zeke and Michaela is strong, so they may be able to “stay connected” in some other way. Plus, if you’ve been following Matt Long on social media, you’ll notice the actor was still on set during the filming of the final 10 episodes. This is Manifest after all. And as we all know, it’s all connected! What role will Zeke still be able to play? We’ll find out soon!
