Netflix has just announced that a new movie centering around the talking squirrel will be coming out in the near future. It’s titled Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, and we shared everything there is to know about it right below.

Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is an upcoming kid-animated film helmed by Liza Johnson. It’s a spinoff movie to the popular Nickelodeon kid-animated series SpongeBob SquarePants.

It was rumored to be in development for several years, with Netflix set as the streaming home. In fact, it was originally slated to come out in 2023, but it looks like the release has been pushed back.

On April 25, Netflix dropped its slate of animated films coming in 2023 and 2024, and Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie was included on the list. While some of the movies on the list were given more specific releases like “summer 2023” or “fall 2023,” the SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff was only given a release year of 2024.

Naturally, we’re hoping it will be released in early 2024, and this just might happen. Since it was initially scheduled to come out in 2023, it looks like the movie might be already finished with the filmmaking process or close to being finished. If this is the case, an early 2024 release is definitely possible. We’ll share the official release date once it’s announced.
