Andre Anthony took on the role of one of the antagonists in The Night Agent. What drew him to that role, and what would he like to do next?

If you haven’t seen The Night Agent yet, what have you been doing? This hit Netflix series follows a man who was supposed to just answer the phone in the basement of the White House. Of course, he ends up being pulled into a conspiracy that is far bigger and more complicated than it initially seems.

Andre Anthony plays Matteo, although there are some twists to his role as you watch the series. He is one of the antagonists in the series, but is he the main bad guy? You’ll need to watch the series to find out.

We talked to Andre exclusively about the role and also his role in Scream VI. Of course, we wanted to know dream roles too.

Andre Anthony talks Scream VI, The Night Agent, and more

We started off the conversation with Scream VI. It’s a small role in the movie, but who doesn’t want to be a part of a major horror franchise?

Netflix Life: What was it like being part of such a huge horror franchise?

Andre Anthony: I didn’t quite realize the magnitude of the franchise until I was lucky enough to be a part of it. The fan base is so passionate, and they genuinely care about the characters in a way I hadn’t experienced before. Each movie is so unique, and I love how they continue to push the envelope with each iteration.

Having the sixth installment set in New York added to the franticness of the story, and I can’t wait to see what the creative team comes up with next.

NL: What did you love the most about playing Frankie?

AA: I love how Frankie is a bit of a troublemaker. We first meet him in a situation where the “core four” are guests in his house, so he carries that sense of entitlement with him. I don’t get to play these kinds of characters very often, so it was a treat to have multiple confrontations with Tara, Chad, Anika, and Sam. That scene at the frat house was the very first day of filming, so it was nice to have a party environment to get rid of any first-day jitters.

The conversation then moved onto The Night Agent, where he had a much bigger role in the overall story. The series is based on a book, but did Andre read it first?

NL: What was it about The Night Agent and character that drew you in?

AA: Before we started filming, I read the book by Matthew Quirk. The book was exceptionally interesting, and I was immediately curious to see how they were going to adapt it for television. I think Shawn Ryan and the writers did a brilliant job of keeping the core elements from the book, while also adding characters and set pieces to add layers to the story.

As for Matteo, he’s a very mysterious character, and you find out more and more about him as the show goes on, which is something that really appealed to me.

NL: So you had read the book before getting the part.

AA: I really enjoyed the book, however, Matteo wasn’t one of the original characters, so it gave me an opportunity to approach him with a fresh slate and not have any preconceived notions.

NL: What can you tease about Matteo?

AA: Matteo is seeking revenge and will go to any means necessary to get it.

NL: What is it about acting and different characters that you love so much?

AA: The more characters you play, the more you learn about yourself. I think that’s the beauty of this job, you get to explore so many different stories with like-minded people in a safe environment. For me, it’s always thrilling to find the motivation for the “bad” characters because they don’t think of themselves as terrible people; they always have justifications for their actions, and that’s a very interesting concept to explore.

NL: What would your dream role be?

AA: Hmmm well, I think good roles come from great scripts, but I would love to do a sports movie or a rom-com. Maybe save some time and combine the two?
