The Thing (2011) cast: Who stars in the sci-fi movie on Netflix?

The Thing starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead is now streaming on Netflix, and it’s one of the movies on the platform that everyone’s watching. If you’re also looking forward to watching this film, we must share with you everything there is to know about it, including the plot and who’s in the cast.

The Thing is a 2011 science fiction film helmed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. from a screenplay written by Eric Heisserer. In addition, it’s a direct prequel to the 1982 movie of the same name by John Carpenter, which was a film adaptation of the novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell.

It follows a group of scientists, who after unearthing a mysterious alien body buried deep in Antarctic ice, must fight to survive as the shape-shifting creature begins to attack and infect them one by one.

The Thing 2011 cast

As we mentioned earlier, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in the cast. She plays the role of Kate Lloyd, an American paleontologist who is recruited to investigate the alien creature. Besides The Thing, Winstead has had roles in the movies Sky High, Final Destination 3, Live Free or Die Hard, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Gemini Man, Birds of Prey and Netflix’s Kate.

Joel Edgerton portrays the role of Sam Carter, an American helicopter pilot who flies with Kate to the Norwegian research station, Thule. However, he initially has no idea why he’s there and what mysterious creature the scientists have found. Edgerton is known for his roles in movies such as The Great Gatsby, The Gift, Loving, Boy Erased and Bright.

Ulrich Thomsen plays Dr. Sander Halvorson, the Danish lead researcher at Thule who recruits Kate. Thomsen is best known for his role as Kai Proctor in the action series Banshee. You might also recognize Thomsen from his roles in the TV shows The Blacklist, Counterpart, The New Pope and Shining Girls.
