Beef, a dramedy series from Lee Sung Jin and A24, should be the next show you watch on Netflix. It stars The Walking Dead‘s Steven Yeun as a failing contractor who finds himself embroiled in a long-running feud with a wealthy businesswoman (Ali Wong) after they get into a road rage incident.

The show was first announced on March 16, 2021, but it didn’t have a title at the time. All that was known about the show was that Steven Yeun and Ali Wong would be starring in it, Lee Sung Jin would be creating it, and that it would consist of 10 episodes.

After an intense bidding war involving many known streaming services and TV networks, Netflix ultimately won and secured the rights to make the now-titled comedy-drama Beef.

The first episode of the series was shown during the Beef South by Southwest panel, and this got people excited to see it in its entirety. Now everyone will have the opportunity to watch the complete first season when it arrives on Netflix on April 6. But will there be only one season of the dramedy? Is it a limited series? Here’s what we know.

Is Beef on Netflix a limited series?

It doesn’t appear so. When Netflix announced that it had ordered Beef, the streaming giant did not mention that it was a limited series. All that was said was that the first season would consist of 10 half-hour episodes. The streamer typically reveals if a show is a limited series when it’s ordered, but this wasn’t the case for Beef. It’s also worth mentioning that every new article Netflix has released about the dramedy doesn’t mention it being a limited series either. So if Beef fares well on Netflix, there’s a chance it could be renewed for a second season.

Is Beef based on a book?

No, this show is not based on a book. However, it is inspired by a real-life road rage incident Lee Sung Jin was involved in years ago. According to Sung Jin, he was sitting at a stop light, but when it turned green, he didn’t go right away. This angered another driver in a white BMW SUV who was behind him. The other driver pulls up next to Sung Jin and starts honking and cursing at him before driving away. Sung Jin then follows the other driver, but nothing bad ends up happening.

This incident gave Sung Jin the idea for the show. Sung Jin told Netflix at the show’s premiere, “I’d say to the driver that I got in a road rage incident with, ‘Thank you. This show exists because of you, and I hope you’re having a good day.”

Beef lands on Netflix on April 6.
