The Last Kingdom ended its run on Netflix in March 2022 after five seasons. Although the end of Uhtred’s story was a bummer, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.

Prior to the final season premiere, Netflix confirmed the story would continue in a movie, also known as Seven Kings Must Die, that would wrap up more storylines and tell a new story about these characters. Five seasons and a movie!

On Twitter, Netflix confirmed the Seven Kings Must Die release date is scheduled for April 14, 2023.

So, about one year has passed since the end of The Last Kingdom, and we’re already getting the movie! That’s great news. Sometimes, these things can be dragged out, but that’s not happening with The Seven Kings Must Die.

What is Seven Kings Must Die about?

Seven King Must Die takes place after the events of The Last Kingdom season 5, and it continues Uhtred’s story. I think that’s the most exciting thing for fans. Everybody loves Uhtred and Alexander Dreymon, so it’s great to see more of his story.

Is The Last Kingdom season 6 happening?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like there are any plans to continue with The Last Kingdom season 6. Seven Kings Must Die will likely be the final part of this story.

There’s a chance, obviously, that Netflix could get the cast and crew back on the hook for more seasons or stories in the future, but it seems like this is really the end of the run for The Last Kingdom. And, how great a run it was!
