The Netflix special was filmed at Boston’s Symphony Hall during Mulaney’s From Scratch tour in February 2023. Alex Timbers, who also helmed and executive produced Kid Gorgeous at Radio City, directed the new special. Additionally, it will feature music from David Byrne of Talking Heads. Byrne previously collaborated with Mulaney on his Netflix children’s musical comedy special, John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch.
