How many episodes are in Shadow and Bone season 2? (episode titles, runtime, and more)

After a nearly two-year wait for more Shadow and Bone, the second season of the fan-favorite fantasy Netflix series finally arrives on March 16! For those keep count, when Shadow and Bone season 2 premieres, it will have been almost 700 days since its premiere in April 2021.

In the second season, which adapts parts of both the second and third books in Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone trilogy, Alina continues her quest to track down the additional amplifiers in order to increase her power. After all, she’s going to need all the help she can to defeat The Darkling.

When we last left Alina, Mal, and the Crows in the season 1 finale, the two groups banded together in order to banish The Darkling to the Shadow Fold and be destroyed by the volcra. However, the audience learns that he’s emerged from the Fold having created a new threat that the Sun Summoner won’t see coming.

Based on where the exciting first season left, off Shadow and Bone season 2 looks to be another incredible season full of thrilling twists and turns. But how many episodes will fans have to look forward to when they start binge-watching the new season? And how long will it take to watch the season?

Shadow and Bone season 2 episode guide

Keeping in line with the first season of Shadow and Bone, season 2 also contains eight episodes. The new normal episode count for streaming series is either eight or 10 episodes (sometimes even six, seven, or nine but very rarely over 10 these days).

Shadow and Bone fans might be disappointed that the season doesn’t have more the eight episodes, given that they had to wait almost two years for season 2, but it’s going to be well worth the wait. Based on the episode titles, we’re going to see some amazing page-to-screen action going on in these episodes. And as a bonus: They’re longer than season 1!

While the season might not contain more episodes than season 1, the episodes have increased in length by a few minutes. None of the season 1 episodes exceeded the range of 45-58 minutes in length, but in season 2, a few of the episodes are an hour and some change long.

That’s no surprise since there’s much more story to work with from the books for the second season. As with most book series, the second and third books in the Shadow and Bone trilogy have more pages than the first. Being so, there’s more adventures in the Grishaverse this season.

In total, Shadow and Bone season 2 runs for about 475 minutes in length, which converts to about 7.9 hours. While it’s conceivable to watch the complete second season in a single sitting, you will definitely need to take a few snack and stretching breaks in between your binge-watch.
