Shadow and Bone season 2 really can’t come fast enough! The highly-anticipated next chapter of the popular Netflix fantasy series will debut on March 16, 2023. We can’t wait!

We can expect the return of the all-powerful Sun Summoner Alina, played by Jessie Mei Li and her First Army soldier best friend (and hopefully love interest!) Mal, played by Archie Renaux. The Darkling Kirigan, played by Ben Barnes, everyone’s favorite epic heist team, the Crows, and others will be back for more adventures. That includes some new characters as well!

If you didn’t know, the show is based on a trilogy of books of the same name by author Leigh Bardugo. The novels are Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, and Ruin and Rising. There’s also a duology that exists in the same universe – Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom.

The first season adapted the first Shadow and Bone book, bringing in plots and elements from Six of Crows. And the two stories meshed together so well! So what’s the plan for the show’s sophomore season?

Which Grishaverse books is Shadow and Bone season 2 based on?

Entertainment Weekly reports that Shadow and Bone season 2 will feature and adapt events from both the second and third books in the trilogy series. That means you need to read up on Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising ahead of the next season’s premiere! Parts from Six of Crows will also once again be used to tell the Crow’s story in the second season.

Book readers will know this is the case as the new character Wylan Hendriks, played by actor Jack Wolfe, has already been announced as part of season 2. Showrunners Eric Heisserer and Daegan Fryklind told EW that the main plot from the Six of Crows novel will not be used in season 2 as that’s a story that needs its own time and the show has a “bigger ambition for it.”

Shadow and Bone season 2 premieres on March 16, 2023, on Netflix.
