Shadow and Bone has some great romances brewing, but I have to say my very favorite has to be Nina and Matthias. I’m always a sucker for a forbidden love story. The two actors, Calahan Skogman and Danielle Galligan definitely have the right chemistry. We can’t wait to see if the two characters will be able to reunite in season 2!

When we’re first introduced to Matthias, he seems to not be such a nice guy. But he shows compassion to Nina unlike his fellow drüskelle. The couple meet when Matthias and the drüskelle capture her and some other Grisha to stand trial at the Ice Court in Fjerda. But when they’re shipwrecked and have to rely on each other to survive, sparks begin to fly!

Unfortunately, at the end of season 1, Nina was forced to “betray” him when Grisha from the Little Palace show up. They planned to take Matthias there to execute him. In an effort to save his life, she accuses her beloved drüskelle of being a slave trader so he’d at least face trial in Ketterdam instead. But when Nina tries to explain this to him, Matthias believes she betrayed his trust.
