Does Marienne (Tati Gabrielle) return in You season 4 part 2?

You fans, the official trailer for the second and final part of the fourth season was released on Feb. 15, and a lot happens in the little over 2-minute clip. In the trailer, we see many of the characters from part 1 come back for part 2, but one character who we had hoped to see pop up in the trailer was Marienne (Tati Gabrielle). We looked over the trailer not once but twice, and she’s noticeably missing. So does this mean she isn’t in You season 4 part 2? Find out here.

Spoilers ahead from You season 4 part 1.

First, let’s discuss what happened to Marienne in You season 4 part 1. Sadly, she only appears in the first episode of the season, but we do find out if Joe finds her through flashbacks. After spending months in Paris, Joe is finally able to track Marienne’s whereabouts. An artist tells him that she’s in London for an art show. So Joe travels to London and looks for Marienne at the art show.

Once Joe finds Marienne, she notices him staring at her from afar. Then as Joe approaches Marienne, she runs off. After a short chase, Joe corners Marienne in the stairwell of a building. Unfortunately for Joe, Marienne wants nothing to do with him and is scared he’ll kill her. Joe notices Marienne’s fear and decides to let her go, but not before telling her that he’s going to show her that he’s changed.

The last time we see Marienne is when Elliot Tannenberg gives Joe the task of killing her. However, Joe doesn’t go through with killing Marienne and instead lets her get on her train to Paris. But of course, he had to steal something of hers (a necklace) to prove to Elliot that he had killed her even though he didn’t. So, Marienne gets to live in part 1 which meant there was a chance she could return in You season 4 part 2. But did she actually come back?

Does Marienne return in You season 4 part 2?

Yes, Marienne does return in You season 4 part 2. Her first appearance happens at the last minute of the seventh episode. After Joe plants Simon’s ear in Dawn’s bag to frame her as the Eat the Rich Killer, Nadia can’t help but think that Dawn isn’t really the killer. She becomes suspicious of Joe and starts to search for clues to see if he is the real killer. She finds a mysterious key in Joe’s office and then goes to the Indian restaurant that Joe frequently visits, hoping to find more clues. However, Nadia’s search ultimately leads her to an abandoned building, where she finds Marienne locked up in a cage.

In episode 8, we find out through flashbacks that Joe trapped Marienne in the cage. Remember in part 1 when Joe steals Marienne’s necklace and then lets her get on her train? Well, it’s revealed in part 2 that Joe didn’t actually let her go free. After stealing Marienne’s necklace, Joe drugs her by putting something in her drink to make her go to sleep. When Marienne wakes up, she finds herself strapped to a chair in an apartment. She sees Joe and realizes he’s her captor and that he has an obsession with Rhys Montrose since he’s constantly watching his videos.

Joe keeps Marienne in his apartment for days before placing her in a box and bringing her to the abandoned building. Marienne tries to fight him off, but Joe ultimately gets the upper hand and throws her into the cage. In this scene, we find out that Joe is experiencing some kind of dissociation from life and is not himself at all. We know this for a fact because Joe promised Marienne that he’d show her he’s a changed man, but he is doing the opposite.

Marienne stays trapped in the cage for a long time while Joe constantly brings her food from the Indian restaurant nearby. Then, we cut to the present time, where Marienne explains how dangerous Joe is to Nadia. They eventually devise a plan to get Marienne out of the cage, which involves tricking Joe into thinking she’s dead.

The plan involves Marienne taking beta blockers to make it seem like she died from a drug overdose. Once Joe finds a seemingly lifeless Marienne in the cage, he leaves her body on a bench outside. Nadia finds Marienne and gives her an injection to wake her up. Then, Marienne travels back to Paris to be with her daughter. Now she can live her life without worrying about Joe searching for her.
