Who is Elliot Tannenberg in You season 4 part 1?

Everyone’s watching You season 4 part 1 now that it’s streaming on Netflix. This season, we see Joe (Penn Badgley) take on a new identity as Professor Jonathan Moore while living in London, England. But didn’t Joe change his name to Nick in the season 3 finale? Why does he go by another name now, and who helped him with his new identity? Well, it involves a character by the name of Elliot Tannenberg. Who is Elliot and what is his relationship with Joe? We answered these burning questions right below!

In the season 3 finale, the thriller series left off with Joe in Paris on the search for Marienne. In You season 4 part 1, we see how Joe eventually finds Marienne through flashbacks. He tracks her down to an art fair in London and meets her there. After chasing Marienne down the streets of London, Joe finally corners her in a building where they have an intense conversation. The conversation ends with Joe telling Marienne that he’ll prove to her he’s no longer a murderer, and then he lets her go.

However, once Joe steps outside the building, a mysterious man is shown watching him from afar. That mysterious man is later introduced as Elliot Tannenberg.

Who is Elliot Tannenberg in You season 4 part 1?

After Joe leaves the building where he and Marienne talked, he goes to a restaurant to have a drink while wallowing in his sorrows. Then, the mysterious man from earlier walks up to Joe and introduces himself as Elliot Tannenberg. Elliot tells Joe that even though he might not know him, he knows his employer, Ray Quinn. Remember him? If not, Ray Quinn is Love Quinn’s father. Everything starts to click in Joe’s head at this moment.

Joe asks Elliot if he’s come to take him back to the U.S., and Elliot replies by telling him he’s there to kill him. But then Elliot decides to make a deal with Joe. He explains to Joe how he’s tired of working for Ray Quinn and would like to do other things. Then, he hands an envelope containing a new identity (Jonathan Moore) to Joe. Basically, Elliot’s deal will allow Joe to leave his past behind him, to start a new life as a new person. But in return, Joe must give Elliot all the money he stole from Love’s account. Joe ultimately agrees to the terms, but then Elliot tells him that in order to start his new life, he must kill Marienne first and then show him proof.

Obviously, Joe doesn’t want to kill who he believes is his soulmate, so he decides to come up with a plan to trick Elliot into thinking that he did. His plan is to steal Marienne’s necklace and then send a picture of it to Elliot as proof that he finished the job. In the end, Joe’s plan works out, and he takes on the new identity of Jonathan Moore.

So, Elliot Tannenberg worked for Love Quinn’s father and was sent to London to kill Joe. However, he decided to make a deal with Joe instead, which is how Joe got the new identity of Jonathan Moore.
