The Empress season 2 release updates, cast, and everything we know so far

The Empress season 2 is on its way, and it might arrive sooner than you expect! According to a new article from Variety, The Empress is among many new and returning shows slated to release on Netflix this year.

When The Empress first made its Netflix debut in September 2022, the historical drama managed to instantly capture the hearts and minds of viewers across the world. Fans of the show will be thrilled to know that a second season of the German-language series, telling the story of Empress Elisabeth “Sisi” of Austria, has already been officially green-lit, meaning viewers are able to enjoy even more of its palace intrigue, gorgeous costumes, and sexy romances.

Season 1 left fans of the show pretty frustrated considering it ended on a major cliffhanger, so thankfully, we’ll hopefully be able to get all the answers we crave in season 2. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming second season.

The Empress season 2 cast

According to Radio Times, the following actors have already been confirmed to be returning to the series:

• Devrim Lingnau as Elisabeth von Wittelsbach
• Philip Froissant as Franz Joseph I of Austria
• Melika Foroutan as Sophie, Archduchess of Austria
• Johannes Nussbaum as Archduke Maximilian
• Almila Bagriacik as Countess Leontine von Apafi
• Jördis Triebel as Ludovika, Duchess in Bavaria

Other characters may also be added to the lineup, but at this time no one else has been confirmed.

There was some concern that the writing and acting strike would hold up production, but since that was in the US, production on The Empress season 2 likely would not have been impacted.
