Where was Freeridge filmed? (Is Freeridge a real place?)

The On My Block spinoff, Freeridge, arrives on Netflix on Feb. 2, and we’re sharing everything we know about the new show. Since we keep seeing a question about where the show was filmed, we decided to answer it right here.

Freeridge is a teen series created by Lauren Iungerich, Jamie Uyeshiro, Eddie Gonzalez, Jeremy Shaft, and Jamie Dooner. As we mentioned earlier, it’s a spinoff of the Netflix show On My Block and follows a new core four: Gloria, Ines, Demi, and Cam.

It follows two sibling rivals and their friends working to reverse a curse they accidentally unleashed from a mysterious box. The siblings are played by Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Gloria) and Bryana Salaz (Ines), and the friends are played by Tenzing Norgay Trainor (Cam) and Ciara Riley Wilson (Demi). Additionally, there are appearances from some On My Block cast members. Peggy Blow, who portrayed Abuelita in the original series, returns in a new role. Also, Paula Garcés, Eric Gutierrez, Eme Ikwuakor, and Raushanah Simmons reprise their roles.

So, where exactly was Freeridge filmed? Here’s what we know.

Is Freeridge a real place?

The teen series is set in the city of Los Angeles in a neighborhood called Freeridge, which is located in the South Central area. However, Freeridge is not an actual neighborhood. Instead, it was made up for the show by the writers.

Where was Freeridge filmed?

Production reportedly took place from May 9, 2022, through July 5, 2022. And like On My Block, the new teen series was filmed in Los Angeles, California. This makes sense since the show is established to be set in Los Angeles. An assistant to the executive producers of the show even posted a collage of photos on his Instagram page commemorating the end of production.

Unfortunately, the exact locations in California where Freeridge was filmed are unknown. However, the show could have also been filmed in Burbank, California, since that’s where the original series had been rumored to be filmed. It would make sense for Freeridge to have been filmed in Burbank since the show takes place in the same world as On My Block and is set in the same fictional neighborhood as the original series.

Hopefully, specific filming location details are eventually revealed. But for now, we can only confirm that the show was filmed in Los Angeles, California.
