Fans of South Korean films and television series are likely familiar with Kang Soo-yeon, an internationally acclaimed actress who has starred in many projects over the years and won several prestigious awards, including the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the 44th Venice International Film Festival for her work in the 1987 film The Surrogate Woman. She was the first Korean to win the acting prize.
Soo-youn stars in the new Netflix science fiction film Jung_E. She plays an artificial intelligence researcher at a military development company called Kronoid. Her character, Yun Seo-hyun, is in charge of creating the perfect combat warrior by replicating her mother’s brain.
Sadly, Soo-yeon passed away on May 7, 2022. Jung_E marked her first new movie in nine years. It wrapped filming on January 2022. Soo-youn passed away a few months later at age 55. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the veteran actress was taken to the hospital after suffering from cardiac arrest and died two days later from a cerebral hemorrhage.
