Jung_E is a new Netflix sci-fi thriller film starring Kang Soo-yeon as a researcher assisting in cloning her mother’s brain to make the perfect soldier.

Directed by South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho, Jung_E has received significant buzz because Sang-ho is an acclaimed creator whose first live-action film, Train to Busan, received rave reviews. Sang-ho also created the dark fantasy Netflix series Hellbound, which will return for a second season.

Additionally, Jung_E will feature the last on-screen appearance of acclaimed South Korean actress Kang Soo-yeon, who sadly passed away in May 2022. Jung_E marked her first return to the screen in almost a decade after her last film Juri (2013). Jung_E also stars Itaewon Class actor Ryu Kyung-soo and Park So-yi (Deliver Us From Evil).

What is Jung_E about?

Set in a distant future where humans have colonized outer space, Jung_E follows a talented scientist working at Kronoid, a facility developing artificial intelligence. Kronoid’s goal is to create the perfect soldier, clone it, and end a long-running civil war that has devasted the remaining population on Earth.

The formidable Captain Yun Jung-yi (Kim Hyun-joo) had a legendary reputation as one of the best human soldiers of all time until one failed mission sent her into a decades-long vegetative state. Over the years, Kronoid has been experimenting with a new combat android using Jung-yi’s brain data with the assistance of her daughter, researcher Yun Seo-hyun (Kang Soo-yeon).

Netflix has shared the official synopsis:

"Earth has been devastated by drastic climate change, and humankind migrates to new shelters in outer space. The civil war that occurs there continues on for decades, and Yun Jung-yi (Kim Hyun-joo) becomes a legendary mercenary and military strategist with countless victories to her name. But one failed mission puts her in a vegetative state. Kronoid, a military A.I. development company, attempts to create the ultimate combat warrior by cloning her brain."
