While we are sad to put some of our favorite 2022 Netflix anime behind us, we are more than happy to welcome the new anime arriving in this new year!

As per usual, Netflix has a great lineup of titles on the way for every kind of fan. However, this time, it seems that the streaming service really brought its A-game, as it has titles that even veteran anime watchers have been dying to see all their lives. What’s more, Netflix is gearing up to be the site people can visit to watch the newest releases, meaning their content will always stay fresh and exciting.

We’re going to have to wait until the end of the year to reflect on which of Netflix’s new releases were our favorite. Even so, we want to list which anime we think will blow everyone’s minds and should be next on your watch list.

Best Netflix anime to watch in 2023

Whether you’re a fan of Junji Ito’s terrifying pieces or love watching above-average humans face off against gods with superhuman strength, we think there will be at least one title that’s your cup of tea. Here are the best Netflix anime we think you should check out in 2023!

Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre

Release Date: Jan. 19

Fortunately for anime fans, Netflix understood that we were long overdue for an adaptation of Junji Ito’s very best horror masterpieces and has thus spearheaded Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the MacabreFrom “Tomie” to “Intruder,” this anime will compile over 15 of Ito’s most hair-raising stories into one place, so you most likely won’t have to worry about one of your favorite stories not receiving a much-needed adaptation.

Make My Day

Release Date: TBA

Make My Day is perfect for you if you are a massive fan of ExceptionVampire in the Garden, and Trese! This anime follows a society that is dealing with a sudden swarm of frightening creatures that are as menacing as they are mysterious. At face value, these creatures threaten their livelihood, but could there be a deeper secret behind their arrival?

"The snowy, ice-covered planet Coldfoot is home to a precious energy-rich ore called “sig.” On the surface, the planet seems to be a crime-free utopia, but in reality prisoners are used for back-breaking sig mining. Jim, a young prison guard, rushes to the site of a sudden mining accident to find a mysterious creature attacking the humans."

Record of Ragnarok season 2

Release Date: Jan. 26

The first season of Record of Ragnarok had everyone on the edges of their seats, so we can only imagine how hyped everyone is going to be for the action-packed second season full of just as much drama and just as many gory but epic fights.

The last time we left off, there were a couple of wins and losses, some of which surprised everyone in the arena. However, with a handful of battles to go, we’re sure there are even more moments that may very well take your breath away.

With the fate of humanity reliant on the outcome of these battles, the stakes are higher than ever. What lies in wait for us? We’ll find out soon enough, but until then, check out the official trailer for the upcoming season below.

Tomb Raider

Release Date: TBA

Between the legendary character that is Lara Croft and the many epic places we always wanted to visit, Tomb Raider is the video game that everyone adored when they were younger. Now, Netflix is giving you a chance to relive that nostalgia by producing an anime adaptation of the iconic 2001 game.

As of today, we don’t know too much about the animated series. However, we do know a little bit about who you can expect to see in the series! According to What’s On NetflixAgent Carter star Hayley Atwell will voice Lara Croft. Atwell will be joined by Allen Maldonado and Earl Baylon who will voice Zip and Jonah Maiava, respectively.

Production is currently underway for Tomb Raider, but with Atwell and the many other talented individuals behind this series, we’re sure it’s going to be worth the wait!

Vinland Saga season 2

Release Date: Jan. 9

Vinland Saga season 2 is definitely going to pack a punch! From the heart-wrenching redemption story we’re bound to see to the diverse characters we’re sure to draw inspiration from, there isn’t a single aspect of this sophomore season that we’re not looking forward to.

Season 2 will follow Thorfinn’s journey to discovering himself outside the rage and violence that fueled him for so long. Now that he no longer has to avenge his late father, he’s doing his best to atone for his sins. But with his self-deprecation and self-hatred at an all-time high, he’ll have to find the beauty in his grim situation. Thankfully, his new friends will aid him in doing just that.
